Bright & Early DuPage Update: Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ)
The DuPage Foundation’s first Bright & Early DuPage grant was awarded to the Wheaton/Warrenville Early Childhood Collaboration (WWECC) in 2013. Since the grant was given, the WWECC has conducted targeted outreach to families and has tripled the number of children annually screened with the Ages & Stages Questionnaire (ASQ). The number of families they have reached through their community activities and events has tripled as well.
The ASQ is a developmental screening tool that is used to assess young children in the areas of communication, fine motor, gross motor, personal social and problem solving. Having a child assessed with the ASQ tool is particularly important to ensure that his/her development is proceeding without problems during the critical first five years of life. The earlier a developmental delay is identified and, if needed, interventions provided, the more likely the child will be on target to succeed when entering kindergarten.
